Help Promote Rowing for Teens in Our Community
Eugene Rowing Club (ERC) is a self-funded organization providing Eugene-area 8th grade and High School students an experience of rowing on a crew. In rowing, no one individual stands out; everyone on the team must contribute to be successful. During Spring and Fall seasons the rowers spend up to six days a week at Dexter Lake.
Our club emphasizes teamwork, respect and integrity. Our rowers are active in other school activities and in the community.
Donations can be designated for use towards a specific program or to be used where most needed. To our donors we commit that gifts to ERC directly support our rowing programs and are used only for the following:
Rower Financial Aid
Although rowing is an expensive sport, we would like to offer the opportunity to join our club to any teen-age individual in the Eugene/Springfield metro area who is interested. As financial aid funds become available we conduct a formal review of families who have expressed an interest in our club but don’t have the means to cover the full cost of membership. Once a family is selected we work in partnership with the family to develop an equitable share of expenses so their rower is able to participate in our club.
Upgrading our Fleet
Regular fleet maintenance and boat replacement is necessary to run a sustainable rowing program. A new shell can cost upwards of $35,000. As an alternative, we try to find a relatively new used shells in the $6,000 – $20,000 range.
Equipment Maintenance
A rowing shell receives some amount of wear-and-tear each time it is used: when it is removed from the storage rack; when it is placed in and removed from the water; while it is being used in the water; when it is loaded and unloaded from our boat trailer to attend a regatta.
Regatta Entry Fees
Regatta entry fees are determined by the number of rowers entered in events, the number of boats entered, or both. As there are many expenses associated with hosting a regatta, and we participate in six or seven regattas each year, the entry fees are considerable. We use donation funds to help offset these expenses.
Travel for Rowers
Getting to Dexter Lake for rowing practice is one of the biggest barriers to participating in rowing. ERC owns one passenger van that it uses to help transport rowers to and from practice. We are actively looking to raise funds to add a second van to our program.
Nutrition Tent at Regattas
At each regatta we operate a Nutrition Tent to provide hot, healthy meals to our rowers. The Nutrition Tent is run by parent volunteers.
Dexter Boathouse Improvements
We are always looking for ways to improve our boat storage and maintenance area.
Your donation will help ensure that we can continue to provide a unique experience for our rowers. Thank you!
